Spring Swap!

Yay!
Sorry I haven't updated, but I do have news... not only the spring swaperoo (pics further down!) but also a spring craft show with my Central IL Etsians group. Fellow Etsy sellers will be gathering in the clubhouse in MY neighborhood to sell their (our) wares! April 30th, 10:30-3:45. It's kinda exciting (and nerve-wracking) to be one of the organizers for such an event. I've made a few new pieces, but I plan to make a bunch more before the show!

Now for the swap!
Christine in ID sent me a (handmade, I assume) dolly for Amber that smells like Cinnamon! & a big wooden letter A, super soft green hand towels, an Easter plate, a bunny cookie cutter & sugar cookie mix & a little organizer container of natural stone beads! Yay! :D

Here's everything!

Amber loving on her dolly;

Amber checking out everything else in the package;

She tried to open the package!

Amber wanted to check it all out again... then she started pulling out & pulling apart the tissue paper! :P

Beads!

Amber's reaction when I said we would make the cookies later...

Dream

The most notable part of the dream I woke from about a half hour or so ago, was my (maternal) grandma coming to visit me and telling me my grandpa had passed.
In real life, my grandma passed, after a long battle with Alzheimer's, last July. In the dream, she had come out of a coma-like state and was lucid and ambulatory again, only to find Grandpa deteriorating in dementia.
I was in a place that was an amalgam of a shopping mall and a school (everything from elementary to college) when Grandma came to me. She was dressed in a brightly colored jacket with a rose brooch on the lapel. She came and found me coming out of a room (class?) and pulled me out of the stream of students saying she had to tell me something. She put her hand comfortingly on my shoulder & said "Monica, your grandfather has passed." As tears came to my eyes she drew me in for a hug. After a while, I said "I'm sorry you didn't have more time with him... really." referring to the Alzheimer's & dementia. She said "Me too." Then she said she had to go for some reason and it was just me, tears in my eyes, wandering down the hall. I found a friend (loosely based on a few different real-life people) and tried to tell her, but she wanted to tell me about her own problems. I found a teacher/professor I felt close to (similar to the friend; not anyone in particular, but familiar)and she, too was distracted and changed the subject. I moved on through a crowd of younger kids & started trying to pull myself together to not alarm them. I went left around a corner and the hall opened into sets of stairs & escalators & the more mall-like part of the setting. I went around and up some stairs & then realized I'd gone the wrong way. When I passed the same teacher again I commented "I went the wrong way, I always forget & go up instead of down." and I went down a different set of stairs, which brought me to the main floor. I went across & realized I didn't have my backpack or any school supplies on me. I remembered that i had a locker off to my right and decided to go check to see if they were in there (crossing my fingers in hope that I didn't leave them in my car or at home), but I was worried I'd be late for my class and debated for a minute before deciding to check the locker first. During this time I had noticed, in passing, a table display to my left before the hallway to the classes. A guy (who was a cross between a couple of my best friends' husbands) bumped into it. There had been a little vase of flowers that looked rather like a milk bottle. It fell to the floor and shattered. There had also been a stand of cards (roughly postcard sized), presumably advertising something. A male professor stopped to help the guy up and said something about not worrying about the glass, but to go ahead & get to class, but as he picked up the card he marveled at it. In the dream, I had seen it before. It had a little panel in the middle that was holographic & changed scenes, one gorgeous landscape fading into the next. The professor said, rather choked up, "What a beau-tiful pink forest. The other guy said, reverently,"I like the blue & purple and gold sunset." I visualized what I remembered of the card & tried to remember the scenes each was referring to and some others, maybe to think about which would be my favorite, though I wasn't as impressed with it as they were. I figured they were stock photos, like the screen savers/example photos that come on every computer and that the card was just an ad, though I couldn't remember what for. I think it was about this time that I woke up shivering. It wasn't until a few minutes later, after I'd warmed up/calmed down that I remembered the part about my grandparents. I realized at some point that I had a Smashing Pumpkins song from the Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness album. I just looked it up, it's 1979.
Since then, I haven't been able to sleep. It was about 3:15 then. Now it's 4.

Setting the scene

Well, it's been a while since I blogged anything. I've been keeping pretty busy & I really shouldn't even be doing this now!
Thursday will be Amber's first birthday! I can't believe it's been almost a year! Sure, tons has happened & changed, but it still doesn't seem like that much time could have passed! And then, a couple days later, it'll be a new year! My new year's resolution will be to continue to organize & clean the house and hopefully get it functional enough that I can focus even more time on Amber, my crafts & selling online and spending more time with friends & family! I feel like I've neglected a lot of people (and my pet snake, for that matter) this past year. :/
To update... we had another swaperoo! I haven't heard from the lady receiving my package yet, but I'm sure everyone's busy with holiday stuff. I received my package from Kirsti, the lady who organizes the whole thing. She got me a framed picture that says "Unto us a child is born" and is just my shade of green, two bags of goodies for me & my hubby (though I've been eating a lot of his Reeses!) and she made little Christmas trees with fabric and mini ornaments on top. :) Very cute! :)

We went to my mom's for Christmas. All three of my step-brothers were there, along with their grandparents & my grandpa, my half-sister &, of course, our parents, Paul, Amber & me. Oh, & my one step-brother's fiance, so we were an even dozen & a half. ;) My grandpa's not doing well. This will probably be his last Christmas outside of the nursing home. :/
Yesterday, Amber was being extra-cute. Here's the scene... Amber's in her high chair. She's been eating Cheerios. I'm here at my computer nearby. She starts yelling. I look over and see she's eaten/thrown all the Cheerios she had. So I get up and ask her, what do you want? She looks at me and opens her mouth "Ah" and then points at the box of Cheerios. "Ok, what do you say?" I prompt as I pull out a handful of Cheerios. She grins really big. "That's cute, but what do you say?" & she signs "please." so I give her the handful of Cheerios. She pops some in her mouth & says "Num!"
I just love that she's starting to communicate useful information & she's just so darn cute doing it!
I might add some pictures later, but I need to go get some lunch & get ready for Amber to finish her nap!

Crunch time

Well, plans for the craft show I was supposed to be in tomorrow fell through. I'm actually a bit relieved, since I feel so unprepared & have so many other things to do!
Hopefully, I'll get some of my new pieces listed soon... I did make quite a few!

Avail Couture Feature!

Hooray! My friend Rachel featured me & Paul as her first "real wedding" story on her company's blog!
Click here to see the story!

If you hadn't already seen, our wedding was featured once before on the OffBeatBride website back in January: Click here to see that story!

In other news, we've been trying to figure out what to dress Amber up as for Halloween... the main contenders are a strawberry ( Like so ) or a monster, using the hat Naomi made for her! :)
Early on we had considered dressing her up as Gir or an Ewok, but those seem unlikely now...

Wishes and rainbows

How do I have so much to do and so little time, when other than taking care of Amber, all I have is time?
Well, lately it hasn't helped that my heal1th1 has taken a tu0rn for the worse. I'm losing weight when I don't need to, my blood sugar and iron levels keep dropping... so I have little energy. It's no medical mystery, this is all explained, so it's just annoying and I have to take care of things.
That's enough whining.0 though. When I get back on top of things and caught up a little, I have so many good craft plans and project ideas and items to list at my poo0r neglected Etsy shop! The success tips e-mails are just depressing me lately since I've made little to no effort on it in so long!
Well, I do need to get my house, and particularly my crafting area, in order before I can devote too much time to actually crafting. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
I'm going to be lazy though & leave the extra numbers and such strewn throughout my post because my daughter was "helping..." ;)

Thanks Naomi!

Got my fall swap gifts today! Yay!
My favorite thing is the hat! Is that not the cutest, funnest thing ever?!
I was a little worried/confused when I first saw the bandanna, but then I read the accompanying letter that explained that it was a bib! :P I may need to work on how to get it on better so it doesn't block her mouth, lol!
I do as little of the cooking in the house as possible, so I'll have to figure out how to personalize the apron for my hubby... it'll have to be awesome! 'cause he's so awesome!
Obviously, the cats think the apron strings were for them! :P
...and the buttons (which Amber seems to really like!) round out a very fun swap gift! ^_^ Now to wait & see what Savannah thinks of all the stuff I sent her! :)
